1. Using information and sources on pages 14 - 17, summarize the aims of the three leaders at the Paris Peace Conference.
Georges Clemenceau (France)
Attitude towards Germany:
He did not like Germany and felt France was being constantly threatened. Due to Germany's numerous invasions on France and the large amount of people Germany had meant that France could be outnumbered if a war broke out between the two. Also it would not be hard for Germany to attack because of the geography.
Main Aim:
He wanted to cripple Germany. He even had the idea that Germany should be broken up into smaller states. He knew he was going to have to compromise.
How he felt about the treaty
He wanted a very harsh treaty and inflict as much damage as he could on Germany.
Woodrow Wilson (United States)
Attitude towards Germany:
He felt that Germany was being given to much blame and should not be given such a hard treatment. He believed Germany would want to take revenge if they were to try and give a hard treatment. ( he was right)
Main Aim:
To create peace and forgiveness in the ruins of a terrible war. to find some peace in a time were most sought revenge. top stop the circle of violence
How he felt about the treaty
He wanted Germany to be treated well, and not given a harsh punishment.
David Lloyd George (Great Britain)
Attitude towards Germany:
he thought Germany should be punished but not to harshly. He was in the middle of Wilson and Clemenceau.
Main Aim:
Was to take away Germany's navy so they would no longer be a threat to Britain
How he felt about the treaty:
He felt that Germany should be punished but no so harshly that they would want to start a new war and take revenge on the nations that gave them no forgiveness

War Guilt:
this clause was simple but seen by Germans as extremely harsh Germany had to accept the blame for the war
Reparations
it was decided that Germany should be paying for the war to the allied countries.
German Territories and Colonies:
former German colonies became under the control of France and Britain.
Germany's Armed Forces:
Germany was forced to cut back on the armed forces it could have because many fear the nation
League of Nations
formed so there would be no ore wars in the world and tried to make peaceful solutions to problems that would arise between countries.
